The China Marine Virtual Reality Industry Association (CMVRIA) will be set up in Yantai in late July, according to a plan announced at the association's preliminary symposium on June 7, local media reported.

CMVRIA, which will be China's first national virtual reality industry park, will set up its headquarters in Yantai, Shandong province, and will serve as a national center. It will focus on introducing well-known leading enterprises and institutes at home and abroad, and promoting the transformation of old and new kinetic energy in Yantai's marine industry.

The virtual reality industry uses computer data to generate realistic images, sound and other sensations that simulate a user's physical experience in a virtual or imaginary environment. It has been widely used in military aerospace, industrial design, biomedicine and other industries.

The eastern coastal city of Yantai has a solid foundation and distinct advantages in the VR industry. The Yantai branch of ICT (the Institute of Computing Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences) is developing a VR data system for this industry. A VR system developed by the Yantai-based CIMC Marine Engineering Research Institute has solved various problems, such as operation training for drilling platforms. JEREI Digital, a well-known hi-tech multimedia digital visual company headquartered in Yantai, has a team of more than 100 virtual simulation experts.

The Yantai government plans to introduce supporting policies and set up funds to attract and develop VR enterprises and talents, forming leading centers for marine VR enterprise innovation, technical transformation and exhibition.
