The export volume of the textile and garment industry in Yantai, Shandong province reached 4.83 billion yuan ($717.3 million) in the first half of this year, a year-on-year growth of 5 percent, local authorities reported.

This means that the city's textile and garment industry has maintained steady growth for five consecutive years.

In the first half of this year, the number of textile and garment export enterprises in the city was 908, a year-on-year growth of 13.5 percent.

Although global trade demand is shrinking and the worldwide garment industry is in decline, Yantai's textile and garment export trade, driven by the demand for epidemic prevention materials, has maintained stable growth, according to Lou Liren, secretary general of the Yantai Municipal Textile and Garment Industry Association.

Yantai is home to a group of leading textile and garment enterprises which can help the city's textile and garment industry achieve stable, sustainable and high-quality development during the current pandemic.

The local government has also rolled out a series of supportive policies to help companies tide through the difficult times.

Some companies have seized the opportunity to upgrade during the epidemic. For instance, Shandong Show Long Outlets Group has switched its production to medical protective equipment. Its products have been exported to France, Italy and other European and American countries.
