Yantai makes progress in culture, tourism in past 5 years

Yantai, a coastal city of East China's Shandong province, has accomplished many of its goals for the culture and tourism industries that were set for the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), local authorities reported.

Official date show that the added value of the city's cultural industry reached 29.39 billion yuan ($4.49 billion) in 2019. People made a total of 86 million trips there, generating 120 million yuan in tourism revenue.

Yantai is currently home to 22 key national cultural relic protection units, 14 national intangible cultural heritage items, two national tourist resorts, and three 5A scenic spots.

The city has also made strong efforts to improve its public cultural services. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, it established 14 cultural centers and 6,356 comprehensive village and community cultural service centers.

In addition, 14 public libraries, 37 museums, and 31 public reading rooms have been built throughout the city.

Over the past five years, more than 100 billion yuan has been invested in tourism projects in the city, and more than 30 projects, including Changyu Wine Town and Penglai Europark, have begun operating.

In order to stimulate cultural and tourism consumption, the local government also issued a series of consumption coupons worth 465 million yuan, with more than 4,000 cultural and tourism companies participating.

The nighttime economy, rural tourism, and marine tourism were also on the rise during this period, and more than 100 rural tourism demonstration bases capable of receiving more than 35 million tourists per year have been built.
