Cross-border e-commerce imports and exports in Yantai, a coastal city of East China's Shandong province hit 1.84 billion yuan ($284.65 million) in 2020, 1,887.2 times more than in 2019 and ranking first in the province, local media reported.

The city has made significant progress in the development of the cross-border e-commerce industry since it was approved as a national cross-border e-commerce pilot zone in 2019.

A number of cross-border e-commerce enterprises have set up operations in the city, greatly improving the domestic consumption structure.

Cross-border e-commerce warehousing and logistics facilities increased by 43,400 square meters in 2020 and five overseas warehouses were introduced. The city currently has 17 overseas warehouses involving more than 10 industries, covering machinery manufacturing, biological medicine, household appliances, food processing, and clothing.

Yantai is now home to 3,000 logistics service enterprises, including 75 national A-level logistics enterprises, more than any other city in Shandong.

Furthermore, the approval process for logistics, storage, and customs clearance has been simplified. The customs clearance time has been shortened to less than 30 minutes and become completely paperless.

In addition, the warehousing, customs clearance, and transportation of international mail express delivery enterprises have rapidly improved.

In 2020, more than 3.5 million B-type express goods with a total value of 560 million yuan  will be imported, becoming a new engine for the development of cross-border e-commerce.
